Job Summary:

The story of Job begins with a man who has everything—health, wealth, respect, and a healthy family, as well as a love for God. Satan challenges The Lord regarding Job’s love, and says it will soon fade away if God removes the blessings that he has given him.

Job’s sufferings begin as he loses everything that he has to some tragedy or other—including his family. In chapter 2 Satan is given permission to take away his health also, and he is smote with boils and sores.

Thereafter we have a dialogue between Job and his friends, as they try to determine why this has happened. The consensus of opinion between Job’s friends is that he has some unconfessed sin, as they maintain that God does not punish the innocent (Ch.4).

Finally, God speaks in chapter 38 and rebukes them all for their lack of understanding.

Job repents in dust and ashes (Ch.42), and his fortunes are restored two-fold.

Notes & Quotes:

The book of Job teaches us that misfortune and calamity can happen to anyone, and that it is not an indication of The Lord’s ill will towards us! Job is described as Righteous, and yet Satan is allowed to torment and punish him to try and break his love for The Lord—he did not succeed.

Job did however become very frustrated with his lot, and who can blame him!

One important point here is that Satan can only operate under God’s permissive will.

  1. Wow! This is powerful stuff and knowledge.
It is changing my understanding of suffering. I suffered a spiritual attack last year during my sleep. I had woke up in the morning but decided to nap a little longer. As i slipped into my sleep I immediately saw my late aunt enter the room from the door. I wasn’t afraid as she glided towards me. As she got close to me i saw the face of a demon and without warning it immediately placed it mouth over my own and began to suck the life out of me. I saw myself being pulled towards a white light. I was aware that i was lying asleep in my bed and i told myself that i could not allow my children to enter the room and find me dead in my bed. This demon was sucking the life out of my breath and i knew immediately that the only way i was going to be saved was to call on the lord Jesus Christ. It took all the strength i had in the midst of this demonic attack to call out the lords name in prayer. I began to say the our father and as soon i began this prayer the demon vanished immediately and i woke up. What struck me immediately was the sense of calm that i felt. I did not wake up in a panic or feel afraid. My room was calm and still. I have never felt afraid to sleep in my room or held any anxiety about this spiritual attack but I was reminded of the power of the lord and his name Our Father who art I heaven. The next two years have been two of the most the most challenging years of my life. I am wondering if that attack was a preparation for my faith and is that what i am enduring now is Gods permissive will and how long will it last. In my life i have bore powerful testimony to the miraculous healing of of the lord. It defied everything the doctors advised but that’s another story.
